The Start Up Period

Copenhagen Kommune recommends that the start up period takes place over the course of 2 weeks.

​

In extreme circumstances it can be done in 1 week, however this is not advisable.

​

During a typical start up a parent will generally stay with the child on the first day.

​

On the second day the parent will typically leave for approx half an hour.

​

From about day 3 onward we will slowly increase the amount of time the child spends with me each day, working up to taking a nap and eating a meal or getting outside to play.

​

Remember that every child reacts differently and what works for one child may not work for another. So taking things slowly and day by day is the best approach.
